CNIC vs Passport — Which Should You Use?
- Lower tax in all slabs above $100
- No annual device limit

How to Register Your Phone with PTA

Check your IMEI
Dial *#06# on your phone. Note the 15-digit IMEI number. Also verify status on PTA DIRBS at dirbs.pta.gov.pk.
Login to PTA DIRBS
Go to dirbs.pta.gov.pk/app or use the DIRBS mobile app. Create an account with your CNIC or passport number.
Submit device & pay tax
Enter your IMEI, select document type (CNIC/Passport), and pay via JazzCash, Easypaisa, or bank transfer. Keep the payment receipt.
Confirmation & wait
You'll receive an SMS confirmation within 24–72 hours. Verify final status by texting your IMEI to 8484.
Frequently Asked Questions
CNIC holders are allowed to register a maximum of 5 mobile devices per calendar year. This limit resets on January 1st. Passport registration has no annual limit.
After 60 days of first SIM insertion in Pakistan, PTA blocks all SIM services on unregistered devices. You cannot make calls, use mobile data, or send SMS until you register and pay the tax.

No — PTA registration tax is non-refundable. The tax is tied to the IMEI, not the owner. A registered phone retains its legal status even after being sold, which actually improves its resale value.
